“Beer is made by men, wine by God.” – Martin Luther.
A bubbling sip of the finest of Fratelli Wines made me believe in that statement. It was a chilly winter evening when the who’s who of capital had gathered at the newly launched – The Wine Company.
Located at the swanky Cyber Hub, Gurgaon the restaurant is a one-of-a-kind where guests can not only purchase wines and spirits of their choice at wholesale prices but can also enjoy a decadent meal.
With a European café style feel and look, the eatery is stocked with the best of wines sourced from 35 countries along with a bountiful spread of premium vodkas and single malt whisky.
On its menu are world-cuisine items like pizzas, steaks, hotdogs and burgers.
Coming back to wine, the exclusive wine tasting event unveiled six amazing wines from the house of Fratelli. Meaning brothers in Italian, ‘Fratelli’ is an Indo-Italian venture wherein three families –the Secci brothers from Italy, the Sekhri brothers from Delhi and Mohite- Patil brothers from Akluj have joined hands to bring the best of wines to the country. Their vineyards are planted with 12 different varieties of grapes at Akluj Maharashtra, over a vast land of 240 acres.
Here’s the list of six wines uncorked that evening:
Fratelli Gran Cuvee Brut: Matching up to international standards, this sparkling wine is delicate with a touch of citrus. It’s ideal for almost all occasions.
Fratelli Chenin Blanc: Pale yellow in colour, this wine boasts of an intoxicating aroma of a fresh tropical fruit. Its elegant acidity offers a smooth texture on the palate.
Fratelli Sangiovese Bainco: This rare white wine is filled with aroma of coconut and bougainvilleas. Its light body texture with a dash of vanilla and violets makes it one of the most unique offerings from the house of Fratelli.
Fratelli Sangiovese: A well-balanced wine, it’s a perfect mix of acidity and a tinge of sweetness with a hint of tannins.
Sette 2010: A luscious rich red wine, Sette 2010 is known for its balanced vanilla flavour, silky tannins and pleasant taste. It’s made of Canarnet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese.
Santo: Made from the finest of Chennin Blanc grapes, this is a tribute to Vin Santo – a dessert wine that originated in Tuscany and was made using the local white grapes like Trebbiano and Malvasia.
The Star: Santo
Also known as “Holy Wine”, this type of sweet wine was used for religious mass in the churches centuries back. It’s typically made from in a unique style wherein grapes are left on vines for extra two months post harvest. This leads to extra sweetness of grapes with a high concentration of sugar and acidity.
Then four kilograms of these sweetened grapes are filled into one bottle of wine. I realized its pleasantness the moment I sipped this delightful nectar.
Here’s what Alessio Secci, Co- Promoter and Director, Fratelli Wines had to say:
The restaurant plans to host exclusive wine tasting session every week for the corporates.
